Last week, our President and Founder, Don Gustavo M. de la Garza Ortega, shared across several platforms a profound reflection on his life journey and the principles that have guided his entrepreneurial, human, and cultural path. His voice once again reminded us why his leadership continues to be a benchmark both within and beyond Vívaro.
“Telecommunications run through my veins” – Tec Sounds Radio
In an interview with Ninfa Romero for ARTEPUERTOMX on Tec Sounds Radio, Don Gustavo recounted how his vocation was born in childhood, growing up—quite literally—among microphones, antennas, and transmitters at the radio station where his father worked. That environment shaped his path forever.
He shared his vision of the new “age of telecommunications,” one he considers even more transformative than the Industrial Revolution—an idea he later reaffirmed following a dinner with Bill Gates and through his firsthand experience during the opening of Mexico’s telecommunications sector after the end of Telmex’s monopoly.

He also recalled the years of regulatory challenges he faced while promoting Radio Beep, a period during which he chose to personally draft a regulatory proposal to speed up the granting of concessions. For him, the true driver of success is persistence—not stubbornness.
In a deeply human moment, he spoke about the economic crisis he endured in 1970, when even his basic services were cut off. That experience led him, as an act of gratitude, to create the Jorge García Abaroa Scholarship, which has since transformed the lives of hundreds of young people.
He also shared his passion for culture and his desire to bring art closer to more people through projects such as Mexico Opera Studio, as well as the origin of the Virtual Telecommunications Museum (MUTEL), born from his historical collection of more than 1,300 pieces.
His message made it clear that his legacy is not only entrepreneurial—it is also human, educational, and cultural.
Don Gustavo has not only built companies—he has built pathways for others to grow.
