In the fast-paced world of technology, where precision and logic are part of the daily routine, there is also room for sensitivity, creativity, and passion.
Ilse Yareli Reyes Sánchez, a Monitoring Engineer at Vívaro, is living proof of that. In addition to delivering professional excellence in her role, she devotes her free time to an activity that quite literally lights up spaces: crafting handmade candles. Through this alternate passion, Ilse shows us that talent takes many forms—and that even behind the most technical desk, an artistic heart can beat with the power to transform the everyday into something extraordinary.
My Story Between Networks and Scents
I’m Ilse Yareli Reyes Sánchez, a Monitoring Engineer at Vívaro
Since June 7, 2022, I’ve discovered a different way to express myself: through the creation of artisanal candles. What began as a personal search for meaningful ways to spend my time quickly became a passion that connects me with my most creative and sensitive side.
The candles I make are not just decorative objects. They are small creations that blend design, fragrance, and detail—made to accompany special moments and spark warm memories.
I craft scented candles, pastry-shaped candles, decorative pieces, and I also design candle holders, bases, cement vessels, and planters.
Each creation carries a piece of me: patience, dedication, and a lot of love.
I learned this craft holistically. I attended in-person workshops, took online courses, and also allowed myself to learn through trial and error. That’s how I began shaping my own style, which now comes through in every piece I make. Nothing fulfills me more than knowing that with a small handmade detail, I can bring light, harmony, and joy to someone’s life—at a wedding, a baptism, or even on an ordinary day.
The time I dedicate to candle-making varies, depending on the season or any upcoming events. But there’s always space to create. Because for me, this hobby is not just a side activity—it’s an extension of who I am.
I’m proud to be an engineer. I love my job. But I also love crafting something with my hands that comes from the heart.
And in that balance—between analysis and artistry—I found a way to shine with my own light.
Tips to Get Started in the Art of Candle-Making
- Research different types of wax and scents before you begin—each combo affects texture and fragrance differently.
- Take a course (in-person or online) to learn the basics of safety, pouring, and decoration.
- Define your own style: you can go for decorative candles, dessert-shaped ones, or functional candles like aromatherapy types.
- Don’t be afraid of trial and error—the best creations are born from testing, tweaking, and refining.
- Document your process with photos or videos. Sharing your journey can inspire others and help you grow.
- Look for local or trusted suppliers for scents, molds, and pigments—your raw materials matter!
- Make your first candle as a gift: it’s a great way to begin with purpose and create an emotional bond with your craft.
Tips to Balance a Technical Career with a Creative Passion
- Set aside time in your schedule to create—even just 30 minutes a week. Consistency nurtures talent.
- Use your hobby as an active break—a hands-on activity helps you disconnect from logic and recharge emotionally.
- Bring what you’ve learned into your workspace—a candle on your desk can be a constant reminder of what inspires you.
- Share your hobby with colleagues—it can spark unexpected conversations, admiration, and collaboration.
- Let your worlds mix—you don’t have to choose between logic and creativity; you can allow them to coexist and empower each other.
