Nearly 200 gamers took part in the altruistic project
$260k MXN were accumulated and given out to different civil associations
As part of an ambitious altruistic project, Xignux collaborators and university students from Tecnológico de Monterrey, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, and Universidad de Monterrey, supported by Ace Esports League’, the largest esports league in Latin America, organized the first face-to-face final of Torneo Interuniversitario Xignux: Gamer con causa on October 16th.
The tournament took advantage of gamers’ passion and channeled it to amass $260,000 MXN which were donated to different civil associations that support the Zero Hunger initiative.
The first part of the event, celebrated from October 11 to 15, consisted of an exciting qualifying round that determined which participants would compete for the Xignux: Gamer con Causa trophy. The event was streamed on Xignux’s social media accounts and on Ace Esports League’s Twitch channel.
Rafael Martínez from TEC de Monterrey won the tournament’s student category and gave out a $100,000 MXN donation to Asociación Zihume Mochilla. Marco Robledo, Prolec collaborator, won the Xignux Employee category and donated the same amount to Asociación Nuevo Amanecer.
During the opening ceremony, Marcela Garza Herrera, president of Fundación Xignux, said: “We know that Mexico is one of the countries with the most video game players in Latin America. That’s why we thought it was a great opportunity to take advantage of the passion in the gamer community and channel it in society’s favor. We want the Gamer con Causa tournament to be a space that connects young people with social causes, igniting a spark that will direct their energy towards becoming agents of change that contribute to creating a better world.”
