A Game of Connection: Linking Lives Through Boards and Pieces
Behind the monitors and the technical precision of my job, I’ve found a universe that has become my sanctuary: a space where game boards and colorful pieces trace paths to joy and family unity.
It all began in 2023, during one of the most difficult times in my life. My mom was facing a medical challenge that limited her physical activity, and I felt a strong need to find something meaningful for us to do together. That’s when I decided to buy our first board game. I had no idea that decision would change our lives so much.
What at first seemed like a simple pastime soon turned into a special bond between my mom, my sister, and me. Laughter filled our home, and little by little, other family members and friends began joining our game nights. That first game became the beginning of a collection that now includes over 50 titles. Each one holds stories, memories, and moments I deeply treasure.
Among my favorite games are Catan, the first one I bought, and Patchwork, a classic in my game nights with my roommate. We even keep meticulous records of our wins and losses, which has made every game even more exciting.
I dedicate time to this hobby as an essential part of my life. Every week, I organize gatherings — whether with friends or family — and I always carry a game in my backpack. You never know when a moment might turn into something unforgettable thanks to a spontaneous match. For me, those moments have strengthened my bonds with the people I love and have shown me the power of play to get through tough times.
Along the way, my mom, sister, and I even ventured into the digital world by creating a YouTube channel: @las3jugadas. Although the project hasn’t progressed as much as I’d like, it remains a beautiful reminder of how far we’ve come together and of the shared moments that continue to unite us.
Soon, I’ll be attending a board game expo at the WTC, filled with excitement to discover new experiences and titles that will fuel my passion. This hobby has shown me that, with creativity and resilience, we can build connections that transcend generations and adversity.
